Anxiety Symptoms and Sleep Disruption in Older Women: Results from PSG and Actigraphy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Insomnia is the most common psychiatric symptom that older adults report to their physicians. The vast majority of the existing literature on insomnia and psychiatric co-morbidity has focused on depression; little research has been conducted on the association between anxiety and insomnia in late life. It is essential to investigate this link because anxiety disorders are common among older people--perhaps more prevalent than both depression and dementia.

Sleep patterns and sleep-related factors between caregiving and non-caregiving women.
This exploratory study compared objective sleep patterns and sleep-related factors between caregiving and non-caregiving women with sleep impairments, and compared the sleep patterns of the caregivers with their care recipients. Nine women caring for adults with dementia and a comparison sample of 34 non-caregiving women provided three nights of in-home polysomnography (PSG) and self-report que...
متن کاملA validation of wrist actigraphy against polysomnography in patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder
PURPOSE Sleep disturbances are frequent in patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Actigraphy has been established as a generally reliable method to examine these disturbances across varying time spans, but the validity against polysomnography (PSG) is not well investigated for this population. We validated wrist-worn actigraphy against PSG in a population of chronic, medicated patient...

897 Commentary—Pillai and Delahanty Nearly 70% of individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) report clinically significant levels of sleep disturbances,1 and sleep complaints appear more refractory to therapy than other features of the disorder.2 However, data from several polysomnography (PSG) and actigraphy-based studies suggest that individuals with PTSD often report sleep disturb...

SINCE THE INTRODUCTION OF POLYSOMNOGRAPHY (PSG) IN THE 1950S, THIS METHOD HAS BEEN REGARDED AS THE GOLD STANDARD FOR OBJECTIVE assessment of sleep,1 providing measures of both sleep and wake time, in addition to classification of sleep stages. Even though PSG offers extensive information on sleep behavior and sleep physiology, it is very expensive and can sometimes be too invasive to be used in...
متن کاملExamination of wrist and hip actigraphy using a novel sleep estimation procedure☆
OBJECTIVE Improving and validating sleep scoring algorithms for actigraphs enhances their usefulness in clinical and research applications. The MTI® device (ActiGraph, Pensacola, FL) had not been previously validated for sleep. The aims were to (1) compare the accuracy of sleep metrics obtained via wrist- and hip-mounted MTI® actigraphs with polysomnographic (PSG) recordings in a sample that in...
